"The voices are strictly folk club, far from the opera house, and all the lovelier for their earthiness" - Album of the Week, Sinfini
"Evening Hymn...a beguiling ballade, ravishingly sung and arranged by Ana Silvera" - The Scotsman
"Invigorating and controversial" - The Times
Premiere 26th March 2013 at Britten Studio, Snape Maltings
I was invited by David McGuiness, director of the early music ensemble Concerto Caledonia, to a week long workshop, performance and recording at Aldeburgh back in March 2013. I was one of four singers selected, including Olivia Chaney, Jim Moray and legendary countertenor James Bowman. It was an amazing experience to work with such wonderful musicians and it culminated in a sold out concert in the Britten Studio, Snape Maltings. We even managed to produce a record that was released in 2015: Purcell’s Revenge (Delphian).
The recording features two Purcell songs that I rearranged – Close Thine Eyes and Evening Hymn – and one original tune, Halos – have a listen below. To stream or purchase the CD, go here and to get a free download of my song 'Letter from New York' with ConCal, go here
Featuring Ana Silvera, Olivia Chaney, Jim Moray, Clare Salaman, Susanna Pell, David McGuinness, Pamela Thorby, Oliva Chaney, Alison McGillivray and Bill Taylor.
